Currently: 16 December 2015

Listening - nothing right now. I was trying to load a show, but my internet is really failing me right now.

Eating - I just had some plain pasta. not the healthiest choice, but it could certainly be worse

Drinking - water 4eva

Reading -  I'm currently in the middle of a few different books (and I'm almost done with my 50 book goal!). you can check out all of my books on GoodReads (goodreads.com/wildflowerchild)

Watching - I need to catch up on American Horror Story: Hotel. I've only watched a few episodes, but I'm enjoying it so far

Planning - the weekend of Urban Nutcracker performances. for more information on the Boston-based spin on the traditional Nutcracker that I am performing in, visit urbannutcracker.com

Wearing - my standard sweatpants and flannel (I don't wear much else when I am lounging around at home)

Nails -I should probably consider taking this off of here since I never paint my nails anymore (although I wouldn't turn down getting a mani/pedi if someone wants to take me for one...)

Feeling - like I never have anything to say when I write these posts. do you all like them?

Weather - it has been unusually warm for December (yesterday it was around 60F/15C), but I am cold already

Wanting - blankets and snuggles!

Needing - to finish purchasing Christmas gifts! I think I have an order to place on Amazon and another super secret order to place and then I will be done

Enjoying - holiday lights! they are so festive and always put a smile on my face. this picture is of La Salette, a Catholic Shrine that my family has always visited to see the lights. I have so many memories from there (not by me-click on photo for source)

Currently: 23 March 2015

Listening - to silence. I enjoy sitting in silence quite a bit

Eating - leftover birthday cake (my birthday was on the 21st). It is extremely decadent

Drinking -always water

Reading -  I'm currently in the middle of a few different books. You can check out all of my books on GoodReads (goodreads.com/wildflowerchild)

Watching - last night my friends and I watched Ghost Shark. it was bad even for a bad horror movie
Planning - my day off tomorrow. Tuesdays are usually quite productive for me

Wearing - flannel and sweatpants. I changed the second I got home from work
Nails -I haven't worn nail polish in months (because it's better for the environment)

Feeling - I've been doing pretty well emotionally lately, but my allergies have been acting up

Weather - still too cold! I wish all the snow would melt

Wanting -maybe another piece of cake? hehe

Needing -a good night's sleep tonight. Last night was the best sleep I've had in weeks, despite the fact that I woke up about three times
Enjoying - life! I'm trying to live in the moment lately (oh, and puppies. always puppies)

Life Lately: 6 February 2015

Listening - Nothing at the moment

Eating - My boyfriend and I just ordered veggie burgers from Root, and he is picking them up on his way home. I can't wait!

Drinking -Lots of water & tea because I am sick :( :(

Reading -  I feel like I'm behind on my reading lately. I'm in the middle of a few different books right now. You can check out all of my books on GoodReads (goodreads.com/wildflowerchild)

Watching - The last thing I watched was my Pats win the Superbowl!!
Planning - The busy work week I have ahead of me. This is a really bad time to be sick because I have two giant projects that I need to finish ASAP

Wearing - my pajamas (flannel & sweats) - I'm sick, what do you expect
Nails -I haven't worn nail polish in months. I've always enjoyed wearing nail polish, but I'm trying to reduce the amount of toxins I put onto my body and into my surroundings

Feeling - sick, sick, and more sick! I thought it was just a head cold, but I've started wheezing. Here's to hoping it goes away soon

Weather - extremely cold with lots of snow. It is full on blizzard season here in Boston. We received a record-breaking 40 inches of snow in just one week, and we are expecting more snow in the next few days. Not to mention that the wind chill is below 0F

Wanting - some more tea, and my veggie burger! In fact, I think I will get up and make some tea momentarily

Needing - lots of rest and fluids, I suppose

Enjoying - the hilarious blizzard and New England weather memes. they're so relevant

This one is particularly relate-able
because my car is so deep under snow right now that I can't even see it

15 in 2015

So it's been 2015 for three weeks now, and I am just getting around to this post. Better late than never, right?
Since 2013, I have been making lists of goals for the new year. (I avoid the term 'resolutions' due to the stigma around the whole idea). Since it is 2015, I will be creating 15 goals this year. I have found that a lot of my goals have to do with each other, but I think that will only help ensure the success of the goals (and it shows what is important to me).

Here is my list (because I love lists so much):

1. Read 50 books - If you are a frequent on my blog, you have probably noticed that I completed a challenge last year to read 50 books throughout the year. I have every intention of completing this goal again this year.
2. Bike everywhere - I have a bike, so there is no reason why I should not be riding my bike everywhere, except that I am pathetically out of shape (I can hardly bike a mile with the random hills in my neighborhood). This year, I want to start biking more instead of driving or taking the T (public transportation), especially to work since it is only a mile a way.
3. Take advantage of YMCA membership - I am incredibly fortunate to have a YMCA membership through my family, but I have not been going. I want to start going to the Y to start taking advantage of their amenities, including the gym and the pool.
4. Get back on pointe - I have been doing ballet for about 20 years, and I started doing pointe when I was a teenager, but it has been awhile since I have last done pointe. I need to get a new pair of shoes, and start doing classes at my studio on pointe. The end goal here is really to be able to audition for the 2015 Urban Nutcracker (urbannutcracker.com).
5. Start a home yoga practice - I have friends who have made incredible progress with home yoga practices, so this is something I would love to try out.
6. Pick clarinet back up - It's been some time since I have played clarinet, which is a shame. I would really like to play more often again.
7. Meditate more often - Meditation is a very important aspect of decreasing stress and developing a personal spiritual practice, so I would like to make a point of sitting down and making a mindful choice to meditate more often.
8. Journal more often - Journaling is another great tool for reducing stress (as well as increasing creativity). I started a journal two years ago as a part of my 13 in 2013 goals, but it is something I often neglect.
9. Create more - This goal is vague on purpose because there are so many different ways that I would like to create more. This ranges from making art, food, DIY beauty products, and more.
10. Write letters - I have a few friends who I am penpals with, but I always forget to write back (I know, it's terrible). I want to start writing letters to friends more often (and reply more quickly).
11. Keep life simple - Another vague goal, but I hope to simplify my life by getting rid of more of my material possessions and being mindful of what matters most to me.
12. Keep my space more clean/organized - This goal ties into the last one because having less items will help me maintaining a clean and organized living space. David and I have done a lot of work rearranging and creating space in my room, but I want to maintain and even better this level of organization.
13. Become more productive in the AM - Most of my work schedule is during the evenings, and (partially due to my insomnia), I tend to stay in bed for as long as I can get away with until I have to start my day. I would really like to start to get up and moving earlier. I always have a lot that I could be doing (blogging, yoga, gym, groceries, etc.), so I want to start doing them before I go to work.
14. Grow blog - I haven't fully worked out in my mind what this will mean yet, but I know that I want to blog more and have a greater presence with my followers and within the blogging community. I think my first step here will be to get some inspiration from other blogs (they even have books about blogging now - who knew?).
15. Start saving money - 2014 was a bit of a rough year financially for me because I have a lot of bills to pay (my student loans are about the same as my rent/utilities), and I spent most of the year bouncing around from job to job. I really want to manage to put some money aside this year while continuing to make all my bill payments.

If you made it this far, congratulations! This certainly was a long post. I would love to hear some of your goals that you are working on right now, so feel free to share in the comments below.

14 in 2014: Wrap Up

Now that we have welcomed in the year 2015, I want to revisit the goals I set for myself in 2014. Looking back, I think I did pretty well overall. I am hoping to become even healthier and happier in 2015, and I wish the same for you all! I will have a few more 2014 posts to wrap up this week, and then I will begin next with with my 15 in 2015 goals. Wishing the best to you all.

  1. Write more blog posts - This goal was pretty hit or miss through the year. I can't say I did the best I could do, but I plan on continuing to go forward transforming this blog into my dream creative space.
  2. Do more yoga - I went through a phase of intense yoga, but then that fizzled out. Yoga is a goal that I want to continue working towards into the future.
  3. Get back into dancing -I started working at a dance studio back in September, and it has been a dream. I have been welcomed into the community with such enthusiasm, and I am excited to continue dancing with them this year.
  4. Land a job that I enjoy - As I just mentioned, I love working at the dance studio, but that is only part-time. I also work at a vegan cafe still, but I am not getting enough hours and need to look into another income source.
  5. Move into a new apartment - I moved both in July (for a 2-month sublet) and in September. I love where I currently live. This apartment is always alive and filled with friends, music, and art. It's really a dream come true.
  6. Cook more - David, my partner, and I started cooking a lot more recently. He even got me a Vitamix blender for Christmas, which has been absolutely incredible.
  7. Read 50 books - boom. done! I  read 56 books in 2014! Tomorrow and Sunday I will post reviews of the last six books I read, as well as an overview of all 56 books. Follow me on GoodReads! @wildflowerchild//goodreads.com/wildflowerchild
  8. Get rid of all my extra clothes - I've posted a ton of clothes up for sale on Vinted. I'm currently at about 120 items for sale, but I still have so much more to put up for sale. I only have a few items up on Storenvy at the moment, but I have had better luck selling on Vinted anyway. Check out my items for sale at http://www.vinted.com/members/1705095-melissalynnamaral & http://wildflowerchild.storenvy.com/. If you're interested in buying anything, let me know that you came from my blog, and I will lower any price for you.
  9. Spend more time outside - This goal was also a bit touch and go. When I was working full-time, I would spend every lunch break outdoors, and I went on a few hikes over the summer, but I still did not get outside as much as I would have liked.
  10. Get on a regular sleep schedule - I would say that this goal went well. I'm going to bed a bit later than I would like, but it has been pretty consistent in terms of the same time every night. I would like to start to get up earlier in the mornings, though.
  11. Become more organized - I think I have more mental clarity and organization, but I certainly do not on the outside. I have a long way to go with this goal, but I'm pretty sure this is a life-long goal for just about everyone.
  12. Find an outlet for playing clarinet - Sadly, no. I miss playing. :/
  13. Bike all over Boston -I have only biked a few times after getting my bike back, but I received a super heavy-duty lock for Christmas, as well as a rear-view mirror, which will be a huge help biking in the city. Now to get in good enough shape to ride my single speed.....
  14. Appreciate all the little things - I would definitely say I am in a better place mentally & emotionally than I was at this time last year. Of course, this is another life-long goal.

My Month in Instagram: October 2014

Hello my dear friends - I apologize for disappearing for quite some time. Life has been hectic as usual, and the upper respiratory viral infection that I had early in the month has come back. I am on my way to recovering now though.
Just to prove how busy I was during October, I only posted two pictures on Instagram, and one of them you have already seen! (It was the apple pie picture from the recipe I posted here).
I plan to try harder on all aspects of my blog (and life) this month. I felt overwhelmed constantly, and I am in the process of making some changes in my life to relieve myself of that.
Anyway, here is the single other picture that I posted on Instagram in October. It is of Donny, the adorably special cat who lives in the apartment I'm in. He has a cleft palette, along with some other issues, but I love him so much (even though I'm a bit allergic).

My Month In Instagram: September 2014

It really seems to be a bit of a miracle when my laptop works well enough to let me copy and paste pictures...Today I managed to luck out, so I was able to put together a post of pictures from my instagram last month. Follow me on instagram @wildflwrchild for more of my photos!

14 in 2014: The year is 3/4 over!

So I meant to get this post done early in September, but (as usual) time have been flying by. I'm still in shock that it is September, and that winter is rapidly approaching. Last year's winter was the most brutal winter of my 23 years in New England, and I have not recovered from it! I'm really hoping to escape from New England sometime next year!

  1. Write more blog posts - I am definitely getting back on track with this goal. I would not say that I am 100% where I would like to be yet, but I am getting there.
  2. Do more yoga - I was doing wonderfully with this goal for about a month, but then things unraveled a bit. I finally have access to free yoga after working for three months at the vegan cafe attached to a yoga studio, so I really have no reason to not go.
  3. Get back into dancing - I'm finally on the way with this one! At the beginning of September, I got a job working at a dance studio, where I do office work and some teaching in exchange for classes (and some pay). My body has a lot of catching up to do in order to get back to where it was a few years ago.
  4. Land a job that I enjoy - I am currently working three jobs, which is overwhelming, but they are all doing things I love. I am not involved in my field, but I'm happy and that is what matters.
  5. Move into a new apartment - Yes! Yes! Yes! I moved into a wonderful apartment with four people who have quickly become my good friends. We have basement shows, game nights, dinners, and more - I couldn't be happier.
  6. Cook more - This is a work in progress. I struggle adjusting to new spaces (kitchens in particular), but I am making a point of eating out less and spending more time in the kitchen cooking.
  7. Read 50 books - I'm right on schedule with this goal! As always, you can follow what I'm reading on GoodReads (goodreads.com/wildflowerchild)
  8. Get rid of all my extra clothes - This is definitely in progress. I have both my storenvy and vinted where you can buy my slightly worn clothing (http://www.vinted.com/members/1705095-melissalynnamaral & http://wildflowerchild.storenvy.com/)
  9. Spend more time outside - I have been hiking a few times this year, but I would still like to be outdoors more before it starts to snow.
  10. Get on a regular sleep schedule - I have a fairly regular sleep schedule, but I have lately fallen into the bad habit of waking up every day around 7 am and then falling back asleep from 8-9 or 10....
  11. Become more organized - The room in my new place is currently an unpacked disaster. I need to work on this.
  12. Find an outlet for playing clarinet - Still not done. I have been doing a lot lately, though, in my defense.
  13. Bike all over Boston - My old bike was stolen last month while the bike I got for my birthday was being fixed. I now have my new bike with me, but I still haven't replaced the lock and lights.
  14. Appreciate all the little things - This will forever be a work in progress, but I'm working on it.

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Currently: 23 September 2014

Listening - currently nothing. I decided to write this post because the episode of Oddities that I was watching stopped (my internet is a bit slow)

Eating - I am waiting for my housemate to finish preparing dinner - it's his night to cook

Drinking - lots and lots of water, as always

Reading -  about 5 different books. The one that is on my lap right now is The Forest Unseen by David G. Haskell (as always, you can keep up with what I'm reading and my book reviews on GoodReads: goodreads.com/wildflowerchild)

Watching - as I just mentioned, I'm in the middle of an episode of Oddities on Netflix
Planning - my weekend (already!?). I have to decide if I want to go to Vermont with my boyfriend or stay home for the open mic night that we are having in my house Saturday night

Wearing -a floral tunic (which I have just posted for sale on Vinted - visit my shop: http://www.vinted.com/members/1705095-melissalynnamaral) along with a pair of yoga pants...I just got home from work, and am relaxing
Nails -bare...and bitten :/

Feeling - exhausted! I spent about nine hours watching the girls I nanny for today

Weather -chilly. too chilly. I love autumn, but I feel like it has not been long enough since winter for it to be getting cold already

Wanting - to go to bed! ...it won't be for a few more hours though

Needing -to find a USB mouse for my laptop, since I can no longer right-click to copy and paste photos (hence no Tumblr Tuesday post again)

Thinking -about life. Yes, that was vague on purpose. I couldn't really think of a good enough answer

Enjoying -the blog UFYH (un-f*** your habit) on tumblr. they have a lot of posts that inspire me to clean up my act (mostly my room)

Happy Tuesday!

My Month in Instagrams: August 2014

Wow, I truly can't believe that it is already September! I'm still dreading the coming of winter, even though enjoying autumn in New England is spectacular. Time sure does fly. Here are some pictures I posted to Instagram in August that showed just a little bit of what I have been up to! (p.s. follow me on Instagram @wildflwrchild)

Babysitter Style

As I've mentioned recently, I've started working as a nanny/babysitter for the two cutest girls. Lately, I have been wearing t-shirts and shorts when I go watch the girls, but as summer turns to fall, I will be bringing the girls to ballet class, playdates, etc. I think it's time I change up my outfits...

So, what are the best nannies good at? Always being ready to run around, make a mess, clean up, and have everything on hand! The best outfit for the best nanny is polished and stylish, yet casual enough that it can stand the test of chasing after children and spilling everything (and who doesn't want to wear something fun and that they can enjoy). White is a major no-no (especially with younger children), and skirts are just going to lead to disaster. These looks that I have put together are affordable, stylish, fun, and guaranteed to pass the test of being a full-time nanny.

Let me know what you think of these looks in the comments below!

My Month in Instagrams: June/July 2014

As you have probably noticed, I fell pretty far behind when it came to blogging in June and July, so I never shared my favorite Instagram pictures that I took during those months. I figured late is better than never (even though I will be posting my August pictures next week), so enjoy!

Trip to Cape Breton

I mentioned a week or so ago that I went on a vacation with my parents and my brother up to Cape Breton island, off of Nova Scotia in Canada. We had a wonderful time visiting family, hiking, and exploring the area! The only downside was the 15+ hour drive each way.

Cape Breton is such a beautiful place. Here are some of the pictures I took while we were on our trip.
